Jessica Aldred - Embroiderer & Designer

About Me

I trained at the Royal School of Needlework between 2001 and 2004. After graduating I went on to work in Production Costume at the Royal Opera House for three years, buying and maintaining the materials used to make the costumes.

In 2008 I returned to the Royal School of Needlework where I now work part-time as the Education Coordinator. I run Day Classes and the Certificate & Diploma Courses in Technical Hand Embroidery in the USA.

The rest of my time is spent working as a freelance designer/ embroiderer, taking on private commissions as well as teaching and lecturing. My book 'Adventures in Needlework', co-written with Emily Peacock and published by GMC was released in June 2011. I am also a Volunteer Tutor for Fine Cell Work, a registered charity that teaches needlework to prison inmates and sells their products.

My passion for all things vintage has developed over the years and in 2011 I began trading in vintage clothing and accessories. All items are cleaned, restored and/ or customised by me and sold under my clothing label- Hynch Vintage.
